Announcement: We hit $500!

3:43 PM 0 Comments

Guys, I am so excited to be able to say that we hit $500 in pledges on the Holidays at the Toy Store pre-order campaign! This pre-order period has been rough. I've been fighting getting sick again (I was diagnosed previously with copd), running the oldest around everywhere, and working. On top of that, the campaign itself is just moving slow. I've had my ups and downs with it, but I've never given up hope that we'll make it. Today, that hope has been rewarded!

What does that mean for all of you? If you pledge to the campaign, you will get an ebook copy of Apo's Army automatically if we fund. Plus, I'm going to be going live on Twitch to read at least two stories from Holidays at the Toy Store. It's your chance to get a sneak peek at the newest book!

Announcement: Kickstarter Update!

12:44 PM 0 Comments

Hi, everyone! We're almost a week into the pre-order campaign and we've raised 20% of the total needed to bring the book to print. I'm super excited! Only about $1200 more to go. I have total faith that we can do it. Remember, this is for our very first coloring book as well as Holidays at the Toy Store.

I did want to give you a little incentive though. For every $500 we raise, I'm going to give everyone an ebook copy of a book. They will be:
$500 - Apo's Army
$1000 - Origins #1 by Jessica Judd
$1500 - Cobalt's Castaways

These books are not available elsewhere on the campaign. The only way to get them for free is to pledge and get us to those individual levels. Easy peasy, right?

Until next week's update,

It's up! Eric did a smashing job and finished 95% of the graphics. The others will be done soon and inserted, but that was enough to get it up and running. It will launch on January 31st, but if you want to be notified when it happens, I'm going to share a link with all of you. You just click that and then click notify and you'll get an email when I hit the go live button!

I can't wait for all of you to see this book! I'm super excited about it. Remember, if you want to be notified, just click the title of the book here: Holidays at the Toy Store

Book Update: Art!

3:11 PM 0 Comments

I've got some good news and I've got some bad news. Let's get the bad news out of the way so we can focus on the good stuff. Remember that cough I've had? Well, just before Thanksgiving, it got a lot worse. I thought I'd just gotten bronchitis or something. I gave it a week and when it wasn't getting better, I went to the doctor. Well, I've been diagnosed with COPD. Just what a girl needs, more initials in her life. In my case, I've irritated it and now I'm on medication to help settle things back down. It's slowed me down but I'm trying my best to press forward.

Now for the good news! Maxx has completed all of the art work for the coloring book, Holidays at the Toy Store and some new sticker designs. I'm in love with all of them and can't decide which is my favorite. Here's a sneak peek at a few of them:

What do you think? Aren't they great? I can't wait for you to see all of her designs. On top of that, Phoebe is working on the blurb and Eric is throwing around some cover ideas. I can't wait to see what they come up with. Maybe I'll have more to show you next week.

For now, take care of yourselves and each other.

Book Update!

8:00 AM 0 Comments

Guys, it's happening! After months of trying to figure out how to make it happen, it's happening. I've spoken with both Maxx and Eric and they've agreed to take payment from the Kickstarter campaign! That means that instead of me worrying over where to find the funds to pay them, I just get to gush about how awesome this book is and raise the funds to not only pay them but to take the book to print.

Plus, I have a secret I've been keeping. The campaign will be not for just Holidays at the Toy Store, but also my first ever coloring book! People have been asking for one for the past couple of years and finally, it's going to be ready to go! It will be filled with all of the images from the books plus some extra images. Each picture will be on the right side of the page with the reverse being blank. This should help prevent bleed through. I can't wait to share it with all of you.

I can't begin to express how excited I am to be able to share both of these books with you. A lot has gone into them and a lot more will before they're ready for printing and shipping. Maxx and Eric are already hard at work on interiors and covers. I'm going to be touching base with Phoebe about the blurb. Then, I have to record the audio for the campaign video and build the page.

So, lots to go! But keep your eyes right here and I'll post updates as they happen!

NaNo & Mall

8:00 AM 0 Comments
I can't believe it, but it's November 1st already. That means that today is the first day of NaNoWriMo! Every year I tell myself that I don't have the time and this year it is more true than ever. With the kid's school schedule and everything else, I don't know when I'll fit in time for writing an entire book. I also feel the littlest bit guilty starting a new book when I don't have the art done for Holidays at the Toy Store. Still, I'm hopeful that I make enough money at Fett's Holiday Market this weekend to take care of that. Soooo...NaNo, anyone?

Other than that, there's not a whole lot new happening. Roger and I will be at Fett's Holiday Market this coming weekend. I'll have all four books as well as prints, bookmarks, pins and stickers. I may even have  single copy of Cthulhu Invades with me. I'll be restocking on those for the show in March. If I have one, it will be out on the table! If you're in the area, stop by the mall and say hi. We'll be by the kids play zone near the food court.

Pumpkin Cream Chai

2:19 PM 0 Comments
...or at least I think that's what I'm drinking. I could be wrong. I'm far from being a Starbucks expert. I am, however, some sort of expert at coughing. That's right. I still have this cough! I went to the doctor yesterday and she's not sure why I still have it. So, she's sending me for a cat scan on my lungs to rule out anything. I have to go out of my usual network for that so I'm waiting on that phone call.

Other than that, there's not a whole lot that's new. Ben is hanging in there as far as classes go and I'm hanging in there with him. I think that next week I may start working on my next book. Holidays at the Toy Store is on hold due to finances and everyone's schedules. It will be my next release though. I can't wait to share it all with you. That reminds me that I should reach out to my blurb writer though. They're an amazing writer themselves. If you're looking for a good book, check out Phoebe Ravencraft on Amazon. I've even been blessed enough to have done the edits on one of their books.

Speaking of edits, I'm currently scheduling from now until the end of the year. Keep your eyes open because I may even run a special sometime soon! I need to raise the funds to put a down payment on my house so I'm contemplating ways to do just that.

That's all for this week. Don't forget that 750 Instagram followers giveaway! We're getting closer slowly but surely.

Welcome to Starbucks

1:17 PM 0 Comments
Howdy, everyone! It's day two of me working at Starbucks and so far, I've gotten very little accomplished. It's a total change of scenery and it's going to take some getting used to. I found a table that I like which is a good start. My only complaint? The music in here is really loud. It's like the volume that you'd put on if you had a room full of talking people, but right now there are the employees and two of us in here. Bonus? I found out that dragonfruit added to green tea lemonade is really tasty.
What else do I have to share with all of you? Let's see...Oh! I started a new project yesterday. By started I mean that I put up a post on Facebook asking who has dogs and what name/type of dog they are. People loved talking about their pups! By the end of the day, I had 35 dogs on my list. I'm not sure when I'm going to start writing that, but it looks as if there's a puppers book in my future and yours! Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the kitties. I also wrote down the names of the next 22 cats that I'll be writing about.

I have to decide which one that I want to write first. Either one would be good, but I'm leaning towards the cats because it's an established series and people may be wanting the next book. At least I'm hoping that they do! I'm thinking cats, dogs, toy store will be my writing schedule. For those of you waiting for Holidays at the Toy Store, don't worry. It is coming. I'm just waiting for the funds to pay Maxx for her work and for Eric's schedule to open up enough to work on the cover. Our lives have become chaotic as of late.

Okay, all. That's it for this week. I'm going to ...I'm not sure what I'm going to do now! I'll figure something out though. Maybe I'll get up and dance since "Boogie Fever" is playing loudly.

On the Mend

9:12 PM 0 Comments
Happy Thursday, everyone! I'm happy to report that I'm finally on the mend! I can actually take deep breathes without feeling like death. I'm still worn down but heck, naps are one of my favorite things. Of course, naps are why I'm writing this at 9pm. Still, it's worth it if means feeling better.
As for the hands, I'm still the same in that area. I never received a call from the place where they do the testing so I need to email my doctor's office about that. The good news is that they aren't doing worse and I found a good video on how to do some exercises that may help. If you'd like to check them out, you can do that over on YouTube. Maybe we can start a workout group...hehe...

Now, for news of the book! It's done! I finished writing the last story and did the formatting. I still need to pay my marvelous artist and get Eric going on the cover. Unfortunately, he's busy until at least October. I can't imagine having anyone else working on this series though so I'll wait. It's hard to believe that today a year ago I was building the campaign for Cobalt's Castaways. Time sure flies by. My goal is to have this book in the books (hahaha) by the end of the year.

Staring on the 28th, I'll be spending 4 hours a week at Starbucks. My oldest son needs a ride back and forth to his class so that's where I'll be hanging out while he's doing math. I figured it'd be the perfect time to work on Florida Cats A-Z. I have the first twenty cats picked out already so I just need to sit down and start the writing. If you'd like to support my Starbucks habit, hit the KoFi link over there on the right.

Just a reminder...once we hit 750 followers on Instagram, I'll be giving away some goodies! We're only 61 followers from goal so I know if we keep sharing and spreading the word, we'll be there before we know it. Not sure where to click to find it? Click Here!

That's it for this week! See you next week!

Lungs, Hands, and Other Updates

10:15 PM 0 Comments

Whew! I almost didn't get a post up today. I had a doctor's appointment, went shopping, came home, and after lunch took a three hour nap. Then, tonight, I was on a livestream to help promote an awesome anthology called Cthulhu Invades Neverland. It's currently on Kickstarter. If you're into either of these fandoms, you should check it out.

But, I'm here now and wanted to give you an update. I'm still coughing a lot, but I saw my doctor today. She's put me on a 5 day course of prednisone to help clear out the remaining gunk in my lungs so that's good. She also checked out my hands and is sending me to get a nerve test done. I've heard these are quite painful so I'm a little bit nervous but it's better to know than not. Or at least that's what people keep telling me...heh.

In more positive news, I've finished Holidays at the Toy Store! I finished formatting it last night. I'm still holding off on the art until finances look a bit better, but the stories themselves are done. I'm so excited to share it with all of you. Who knows, I might do another Sneak Peek before the campaign launches to bring the book to life. I wrote one of my favorite stories last night that was inspired by my friend Lucid. I can't wait for all of you to read it.

Anyway, that's it for this week. Keep coming back for more updates and thank you all for your continued support.

No wait! I almost forgot! I'm planning a giveaway for your choice of one of my books! It will run once my Instagram reaches 750 followers. So, if you haven't followed me there and you're interested in winning one of my books, go and check it out.

Now that's it! I'll see you guys next week. Keep an eye out for more #CrockpotMonday recipes coming soon!

Sneak Peek: Cheese Lovers Day

8:00 AM 0 Comments

When the chance to create a holiday happened, the sheep were first in line to add January 20th as Cheese Lover’s Day. They loved cheese and tried to have some with every meal. The other toys could tell you that whenever the sheep were in charge of food for an event, there was always cheese. They didn’t know the types of cheese, but the sheep always chose delicious ones for everyone to enjoy.

On January 20th, the sheep laid out all different types of cheese on their outdoor tables. There were soft cheeses like Brie, ricotta, cream cheese, and even cottage cheese. There were hard cheeses like cheddar, parmesan, and Swiss. Each of the cheeses was labeled with its name and had a small plate of crackers next to it.

As each of the toys stopped by that day, they tried different types of cheeses, and the sheep told them about each one.

“Brie is from France. It tastes great on crackers or even on sandwiches,” Baa told Teddy when he stopped by.

“Cheddar cheese comes from England and is white there. Here, in the United States, it’s yellow,” said Black Sheep.

“I bet you can’t guess where Swiss cheese comes from,” said Baaa to Sylver when he took a nibble of the holey cheese. “Umm…Switzerland?” answered Sylver. “You’re right!” the three sheep yelled, making Sylver jump and almost drop his cheese. He scrambled and managed to catch it before popping it into his mouth.

He was about to head back to the ocean life cubby when he noticed a tv set up next to the tables. “What’s this?” he asked. “Oh that…that’s something that we thought the toys might enjoy. It’s a game called Cheese Game.”

Sylver walked closer to the screen and noticed that controllers had been hooked up. “Can I try it out?”

“Of course you can. That’s why we set it up!” said Baa while his brothers walked back to the tables to put out new pieces of cheese. “It’s one player or I’d play with you. Try it out and if you would like a snack, come back over for some more cheese. Perhaps some cheddar this time or cream cheese.” Baa smiled and walked away.

Sylver picked up a controller and hit start. He chuckled when he saw that he was playing as a piece of cheese that looked a lot like the piece that he had just eaten. The game started easily enough. He was a piece of cheese that had to avoid everything because everything wanted to eat him. He beat a few levels and when he paused for a moment, he noticed that he had drawn quite the crowd around him. Quite a few of his friends were there supporting him and cheering him on.

He took a deep breath and unpaused the game. It was time for the final level. With his friends watching, he dodged left, and he dodged right. There were rocks falling from the sky and a miner trying to catch him. He kept dodging and running. The rocks were falling faster now and the more intense the game got, the quieter his friends got. There were only thirty seconds left. Could he beat the game?

He dodged to the left again. A rock barely missed him, and his friends held their breath. He was so close. Another dodge to the right and around a pair of rocks that came raining down. The miner was right there, but he managed to veer around him. Ten seconds left. Suddenly the rocks were coming down faster, but with each rock that rained down, he dodged around it. Five seconds left and the miner was right on this tail. He flipped around and ran around the miner. Time was up and he won! He let out the breath that he hadn’t realized he’d been holding and grinning, turned around to hug his cheering friends.

“You did it! On your first try you beat that game!”

“Oh my gosh, that was awesome!”

“Thanks, guys! We should celebrate with some cheese!”

Discouraged

7:13 PM 0 Comments

Hi, guys! It's me. Then again, who else would it be, right? I have some bummer news. I have pneumonia. I've been coughing for two months but thought maybe it was severe allergies or something. No such luck. This explains why I'm tired so much and why I start having coughing fits after doing things like grocery shopping. The doctor prescribed some meds for me so hopefully I'll be on the mend quickly. As for my hands, it looks like a pinched nerve in both elbows that will require me to see an orthopedic doctor and probably splints that I'll have to wear. I'll be calling on Monday to see what my next steps are.

Honestly. the news today has left me feeling a bit down and discouraged. Typing can be a real challenge and after having a semi-active day, I just want to lay down and go to sleep. Except it's 7pm. I'm still just 17 pages away from finishing the book. I've spoken to Eric and he's booked solid for a while. We're still hoping to have it finished by the end of the year. We just need the stars to align properly.

Now, since this post and last week's post were kind of bummer, I want to give you a bit of something that will hopefully make you smile. As soon as I hit post on this, I'm going to post a sneak peek for tomorrow! Don't worry, y'all, I may be down but I'm far from giving up.

Another Week, Another Post

7:05 PM 0 Comments

Happy Thursday, everyone! I'm back with my weekly update. Sadly, it's not a great one. Over the past week, I've developed carpal tunnel like symptoms in both of my hands. This makes it really hard to type. I'm also between a rock and a hard place because my doctor's office has stopped taking my insurance and it may take up to two months for my waiver to be approved/denied. If it's denied, I have to find a new doctor and start completely over. No fun.

But, what did get done this week? Well, just today I completely updated my character guide for the toy store book series. This will help me remember character names and bits of information about them. I've also updated my page count for Holidays at the Toy Store. I'm down to just needing three to four more stories. That's the same as last week, but it's more locked in now which is reassuring to me.

I'm thinking about writing about:
National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
National Juggling Day
Make Music Day
National Scavenger Hunt Day

What do you think?

In other news, the new bedtime is coming along. I've found myself going to bed earlier even on the nights that I don't have to. I'm also sleeping better, I think. Last night I slept for 12 hours straight which wasn't my intention but was clearly needed.

So, that's it! If you have any tips on the carpal tunnel or anything else, I'd love to hear them.
Have a great week!

Progress

7:37 PM 0 Comments

It's been a week since I last updated you and though the progress has been slow, it's been there! If my estimates are right, I'm only three to four more stories from having the book complete. After that, it will be in the hands of my artists. Max does an incredible job with the interior art and if you've seen the covers of Tales from the Toy Store and Return to the Toy Store, you'll know Eric is one amazing cover artist. I only ever have the vaguest of ideas for covers and he always comes up with these fantastic covers.

In other news, I've been on call for jury duty for the past two weeks and never got called in. It's so hard to schedule things when you're on call like that. I feel for those who live like that all the time. Speaking of time, it was pointed out to me that I might do better if I went back to having some type of bedtime. I've been staying up to crazy hours and then sleeping most of the day away. I'm almost always tired. So, it's time to test this theory and see if this gets me in a better place. Heck, it might even help my creativity levels! You never know.

For now though, I have an open Word document, my headphones on, and some Disney music playing. That means it's time to get back to work on Holidays at the Toy Store!

Currently Scheduling

9:29 PM 0 Comments

Hey, everyone! I just wanted to give you a little bit of a life update. Some of you know that drama that happened last year with my house. Well, the house is still stressing me out. You see, I have to have $5500 saved up by May 1st so that I can buy the house. If I don't have it, there's a good chance that the cats and I will be homeless. Soooo...as part of me trying to really do what I can to boost the signal, I've decided to really try to post weekly here. I may also put together a GoFundMe in the future as well as sell some things. I really hate to do it, but if the choice is between pride and having a place to live...well, I'm going to go with having a house to live in.

Now, let's move on to something a bit more cheerful. Holidays at the Toy Store is coming along well. In fact, I would say that it's over halfway done at this point. I can't wait to share it with all of you once it's finished. Heck, there's a good chance that I may put a couple other stories up here between now and when I run the Kickstarter for printing/pre-order. With any luck, that will happen in October or November.

You may have noticed that this post was titled "Currently Scheduling" and that I haven't mentioned what I'm scheduling. Well, I'm currently scheduling editing jobs for the rest of July and for August. No job is too big or too small. Every penny helps me with day to day living as well as setting aside money for the house. If you'd like more information, check out my Services page. To schedule a slot, just email me at Katrina@KatScratchPress.com or message me on Facebook.

That's it from the village! Keep your eyes open for new sneak peeks and maybe even some new recipes!
