The Good:

Another quick moving section and as a reader, I could start to see the story itself starting to come together. The girls are still very much individuals and dealing with their own insecurities and issues while trying to figure out what's going on. It can be hard not to have characters blend into one another so I appreciate their differences.

I know that things have been quiet around here, but today, I can finally reveal why that is! I've been hard at work on book 2 of The Tether Series! That gorgeous image to the left is our brand new book cover. Isn't it fantastic? Nick does such an amazing job on these.

I revealed the cover last week on Facebook and now I'm sharing it with all of you. There's more though! Nick, through some sort of magic, took our finished book and had it prepped for publication within 24 hours of me sending it to him. I swear he has powers that he doesn't tell people about.

Now, due to his insane skills (aka magic powers), I can tell you that the pre-order for the Kindle version is open now! More and more, I find myself being drawn to the paranormal and fantasy sections when it comes to review books. Perhaps it's because I keep finding books like this one. For a while, it seemed like a lot of the books were just repeats of each other, but in The Banshee's Embrace, I found an entirely new take on the old lore of banshees and wizards. On top of that, there were some twists and turns along the way that I certainly wasn't expecting and at the end of the book, I was left eagerly awaiting the next segment to find out what happens with not only Jacqueline, but her best friend, Toby, his mother and some of the other characters. Each character had their own defined personality and fit like a puzzle piece made specifically for this story. Honestly, if you enjoy paranormal/fantasy books, I recommend that you check this one out. Ms. Richards has done a wonderful job with making something old new again.

It's not often that I read a book and I spend the entire time wondering what it is about it that's keeping me reading. Usually I know right away if I'm enjoying a book or if I'm just not. In fact, the only other time I remember having this feeling is with the first Snookie Snackcake book. I was left with such mixed feelings that I never went back to the series. This one could be similar for me. As I was reading it, I kept thinking that I really liked the premise. In fact, I was enjoying the book. Then, I'd notice an editing error and I'd have to walk away for a bit. Yes, they make me twitchy. I can't help it. It's my job to notice these things. Then, I'd want to know what was happening so I'd come back. Final opinion? It's a good book and other than one part that I just didn't get, I think it's a story that a lot of you will enjoy.

Edit: It's been brought to my attention that the copy that I received wasn't the final edited version! Whew! Knowing that, I can happily say go for it on this book! The story is interesting and if you enjoy paranormal fiction, this could be an excellent series for you.

It's not often that I review a book and I'm not on here gushing over it. That happens because I generally only choose books that I think I'll love. After all, it's not fair to anyone if I choose something I know that I'm not going to enjoy. Sadly, this book is one that falls somewhere in between. The story idea is wonderful. I completely love the premise. However, the author really needed to use a good editor. There were parts of the story that were completely unnecessary and other parts that needed clarification. Throughout, the story continued to hold me, but as an editor, mistakes completely distracted me from the action. I would love to see this book re-released after going through a quality editor. Until then, I don't feel as if I can back it 100%.
